Terms and Conditions

1. Service description
taffel is a free web application that allows groups of people to split restaurant bills using optical character recognition (OCR) on receipt photos. The service is free for end users.
2. Minimum age
You must be at least 18 years old to use taffel. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
3. Account and registration
Access is provided via a 4-digit verification code sent to your email address. No password is required. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your email account and for all actions taken through your account.
4. Acceptable use
You may not use taffel to:
- Upload content that is not a restaurant bill or receipt
- Attempt to breach platform security
- Use the platform for illegal purposes
- Create fake accounts or spam
5. How we generate revenue
taffel is free for users. We generate revenue through:
- Contextual advertising: we display Google AdSense ads based on content, not your personal profile
- Provider sponsorships: restaurants, bars and food venues can pay to be featured on the platform
- Aggregated statistical data: we may sell fully anonymized price statistics and trends (no individual users identified) to third parties
- Future premium plans: we may offer paid additional features for users or businesses in the future
- Partner communications (with your consent): if you opted in to partner communications, we may send you offers from restaurants and businesses in your city
6. Data and privacy
The processing of your personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy. By accepting these terms, you also accept our privacy policy.
7. Your photos and receipt data
The photos you upload and the data extracted from them (items, amounts, descriptions) may be retained in anonymized form to improve the service's recognition models. taffel does not claim any rights over the content of your receipts or the photos you upload.
8. Limitation of liability
taffel is provided "as is". We do not guarantee that receipt recognition is 100% accurate. We are not responsible for payment errors arising from OCR inaccuracies. Users are responsible for verifying amounts before making payments.
9. Service modifications
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time. In the event of material changes to these terms, we will notify you by email if you have a registered account.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Chile. Any disputes will be submitted to the competent courts of Santiago, Chile.
